The Voice of Dignity

About | Design

KEZA is currently developing four eclectic and robust collections. The Umoja and Malikia collections currently contain a combined 21 pieces, which are available for purchase on our website. We will continue to contribute to these collections in 2010-2011 as we develop new men's and women's products for the Shuja'ah and M'cizi collections, with a minimum of 10 products in each line.

UMOJA: (oo MO ja) Unity, oneness
MALIKIA: (ma LEE kee ya) queen
SHUJA'AH: (SHOO jah) hero, brave, warrior
M'CIZI: (mu CHEE zee) from the ghetto

2010 collections are crafted from recycled paper, leather and fabric, created in Kigali, Rwanda. New collections utilize horn, bone, metals, fabric, leather and many other materials. Students from fashion universities will intern with KEZA in the US and in Africa. During this time they will design new ready to wear collections for our partners and runway collections for KEZA that will be used to brand and promote 2011 ready to wear collections. In 2009, two interns, Jenny Lai and Lindsay Perkins from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) took the art of paper bead rolling to a new level and contributed to the Malikia and Umoja collections.

We will continue our partnership with RISD and foster relationships with additional fashion schools as well. As we grow, we hope to be a conduit for ethically driven designers to use their skills to empower developing nations. This process ensures quality designs, credibility for our products and promotion through the networks of designers and universities.
